Hello, my name is Trina Moroni. I am the 3rd grade teacher at OLV. I have been teaching at OLV since 2018. I love third grade and all the exploring, learning, and fun we get to have!
I am responsible to teach ELA and Social Studies in grades 3 and 4. I love to teach reading! I could teach it all day. I enjoy helping the students become better readers and learning about all different and new genres. In my class we take lots of new reading adventures.
I also love teaching at a Catholic school. We get to learn about and experience God’s love on a daily basis. All three of my children attend Catholic school. It is wonderful to be able to combine faith and learning together.
Welcome to 3rd Grade’s Class Website!
ELA: (English Language Arts): We use the Pearson Realize: My View Curriculum. Through this curriculum, we combine technology and text-based learning. During ELA class your child will take part in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing activities. The goal for all students is to not only become readers and writers and to meet standards on district and state assessments, but more importantly to develop a love of reading and writing.
The contemporary instruction in myView helps the teacher address literacy, content areas, social-emotional learning, and – most importantly — student curiosity every day. Through myView students follow a four-step process workshop. Step one: The Reading Workshop. During the Reading workshop, the teacher will use whole group and small group instruction. The Reading Workshop follows a gradual release model that enables the teacher to easily differentiate for reading abilities. Step two: The Reading-Writing Bridge. In Bridge lessons, students practice skills that are complementary to both reading and writing. Step three: The Writing Workshop. Student authors participate in daily minilessons where they’re immersed in genres through mentor text and can develop their own writer’s craft. Step four: Project-Based Inquiry. Project-based inquiry gives students a real-world reason to read and write in the ELA classroom. Students will combine inquiry and research skills, use collaboration and teamwork, build 21st-century skills, like innovation and creativity, support social-emotional development, and develop speaking and listening skills.
Social Studies: We use the Reason Realize: My World Curriculum. As outlined by the New York State Social Studies Framework, in “Communities around the World,” students learn about communities around the globe and about global citizenship. Students bring with them knowledge about their communities. In this course, students make comparisons across time and space, examining different communities and their cultures. Culture includes social organization, customs, and traditions, language, arts and literature, religion, forms of government, and economic systems. Students are introduced to the concepts of prejudice, discrimination, and human rights, as well as to social action.
